International Community School to Celebrate 20 Year Anniversary with Founders and Alumni

The virtual celebration will center around telling stories of the early days of ICS

DECATUR, GA. – This Saturday, January 15, the International Community School (ICS) will host a virtual celebration via Zoom with school founders and alumni to share stories of diversity and success through the years. ICS is a K-5 charter elementary school dedicated to multiculturalism and mutual learning, with 50% of students from a non-English speaking country.

We have lined up several former ICS students who are willing to share with you what ICS meant to them in the relatively early years of the school,” wrote ICS Founder Bill Moon. “We are looking forward to the meeting with you all.”

ICS started in 2002 as one of Georgia’s earliest start-up public charter schools, serving 125 Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students and operating on the campus of Avondale Patillo United Methodist Church. In 2012 they moved into the former Medlock Elementary School Building and has grown to enroll 440 refugee, immigrant and local students.

“I’m excited to hear from our alumni about how their early days at ICS have prepared them for success beyond our four walls, because the incredible diversity of our 20 years of alumni make up what the Beloved Community at ICS is today.” said Executive Director Julie Allen.
