ENROLL

ICS is a public charter school that is free and open to all.  ICS enrolls students who reside within the DeKalb County School Districts, except incorporated Decatur and Atlanta school districts. 

Applicants will be admitted through a public lottery process to determine admission. ICS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in admission to its programs, services, or activities, in access to them, in treatment of individuals, or in any aspect of their operations. ICS does not discriminate in its hiring or employment practices.

Enrollment Lottery

To apply for enrollment at ICS, please fill out an application on SchoolMint! Applications for the 2024-25 school year opened on January 1, 2024. 

The live lottery for enrollment took place on February 13, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. on Zoom. The deadline to enter before the lottery was February 8. Parents may still fill out an application, but they will be added to the waitlist until after the lottery seats are filled.

Lottery and Enrollment FAQ

 

Q: When is the application for the 2024-2025 school year available?

A: The new application opened online on January 1, 2024.

Q: Is there a requirement to apply to ICS?
A: Yes. The only requirement is that you reside in DeKalb County. You may check your status through the
district website HERE.

Q: How do I get to the application?
A: You can go to the ICS website; look for the tabs underneath the name of the school and logo; select
the Enrollment Tab (4th from the left); follow the prompts “click here to apply” button; you will need to create an
account through SchoolMint to apply.

Q: How old does my child need to be to start Kindergarten?
A: ALL children entering Kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before September 1st and ALL children
entering First Grade must be 6 years old on or before September 1st .

Q: If I have more than one child, do I apply for each child?
A: Yes, if you have more than one child, you must complete a separate application for each child.

Q: Can I get help completing the application?
A: Yes, if you need help or translation services, please contact the school to arrange for you to come to the
school for assistance.

Q: If I have no access to a computer, can I still apply to ICS?
A: Yes, if you do not have a computer, you can call the school to arrange for a time to come in and use a
computer.

Q: How soon can I apply for next year?
A: You can begin submitting applications January 1, 2024.

Q: If I applied last year, do I need to apply again this year?
A: Yes, you must apply for admission each year if you want to be considered for admission. The waitlist list
DOES NOT ROLL OVER from year to year.

Q: Can I apply to more than one lottery?
A: No, you can only apply for the lottery of the grade your child will enter the upcoming school year.

Q: If I have twins do I submit two applications?
A: Yes, if you have twins, you must submit a separate application for each student.

Q: Can I apply if I don’t live in Dekalb County but will move to Dekalb before school starts?
A: No, you must reside in DeKalb County to even be considered for the lottery.

Q: If I work for Dekalb County Schools, do I get priority consideration?
A: No, you will only receive priority consideration if the student is a sibling to a current ICS student, a child of a
staff member or a board member.

Q: When are applications due for the next lottery?
A: The lottery deadline for the 2024-25 school year deadline is February 8, 2024 at midnight.

Q: When will the next lottery be held?
A: The lottery will happen on February 13, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. on Zoom.

Q: Where will the lottery be held?
A: The lottery will be virtual; specific details will be provided closer to the lottery.

Q: What happens if I miss the lottery?
A: Your child will be placed on the waitlist after everyone who was included in the lottery. You will be placed on the waitlist based on the date and time of your electronic application submission.

Q: How will I know if my child gets selected through the lottery?
A: You will receive an email to the address you submitted with your application. The email will instruct you to accept or decline. You will also receive details on the next steps to officially register your child

Q: What if my child does not get selected at the lottery?
A: Your child will be placed on the waitlist in the order they land after the actual lottery selection. The system will keep you updated on your waitlist status as the list moves.

Q: Does ICS offer Pre-K and Middle School?
A: ICS serves Kindergarten through Grade 5.

Q: Is there a cost to attend ICS?
A: No, there is no cost to attend ICS. We are a DeKalb County Public Charter School and there are no fees
associated with attendance.
