“Libraries store energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life” – Sidney Sheldon

The library at ICS is no different, and on Friday, January 20, 2017, a delegation from Belarus visited our school to learn more about it. These visitors were invited to the United States under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, arranged by Graduate School USA, and the Georgia Council for International Visitors.

ICS was one of several places they visited in Georgia, as part of their interest in learning about the impact of libraries in American society; in their role in the social, professional, and academic activities of individuals and communities; and about best-practices in libraries. It also gave Ms. Lori the opportunity to learn about libraries in Belarus, and being able to share comparisons in elementary library programming.

Our visitors were welcomed by Mr. Velde-Cabrera and Ms. Lori. They then met with Ms. Brisse to hear about the Reading Recovery program which she teaches, and its benefits in the academic and reading progress of our students. Ms. Lori took their questions about how our school library operates, followed by a tour of the school before their departure.

We were honored to have participated in this exchange of ideas and sharing of best practices with international colleagues. The International Community School wants to thank the Georgia Council for International Visitors for this opportunity, and to our visitors:
