On Thursday, January 23, the International Community School (ICS) officially opened its Community Resource Center (CRC). The Center’s mission is to serve all families and parents of the International Community School through enhancing each family’s self-sufficiency and holistic wellbeing.

The opening of the CRC was met with great enthusiasm by the International Community School’s staff, students, families, partners, and community at large. Several hundred guests attended the opening, which began with a speech by Principal Julie Allen.

“[The Community Resource Center] is all about helping kids not just with their academics, but with all of their other social and health needs and any needs of [ICS] families.”

-Julie Allen, Principal

Ms. Allen concluded her speech by cutting a red ribbon in front of the CRC’s door. Guests were given the opportunity to tour the Center, which includes supply closets, a family resting area, a nursing corner, as well as seating for instructional classes. The supply closets are equipped with non-perishable food items, feminine and general hygiene products, and clothing items. All items in the supply closets are free for ICS families in need and generously provided by partner organizations.

Several ICS partners were in attendance to inform guests of upcoming ICS workshops. The event concluded with a potluck holding a multicultural array of meals from ICS families and local markets. Members of the ICS community are invited to visit the NEW website page for more information and to get involved today!
