“Is Mr. Velde-Cabrera going to read to our class today?” A 3rd grade student enthusiastically asks in the hallway.
On Wednesday November 9, Mr. Velde-Cabrera took the Principal Challenge with BookIt!
The Principal Challenge has been organized to celebrate National Young Readers Week since 1989 to raise awareness around the importance of reading. The event is co-founded by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.
The Principal Challenge is the main event, and BOOK IT! consists on Principals spending their day reading – from the first bell to the last, celebrating the joy of reading, and Mr. Velde-Cabrera took it, reading to all the classes. Among the books he read is: “Each Kindness” by Jackqueline Woodson.
