It started on a Sunday morning with one sign of encouragement from a neighbor, and her invitation to the Medlock community to follow the support… the response spread out in just a few hours. Children and adults were making signs, in their own homes or with someone who hosted a “sign-making party”; Medlock neighbors came together to show their support and love for our school’s mission and the children who come here to learn.

As I wrote on Facebook, I am deeply moved and inspired by the actions of the ICS neighbors. Refugees in the United States are as American as my Irish Grandmother’s apple pie. Their presence among us enriches our lives and gives us hope for a truly inclusive society practicing the virtues of the Beloved Community that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others gave their lives for.
