NEXT SATURDAY November 4th! Come and celebrate with us the 15th year anniversary of our school with an inaugural run/walk: “ICS Runs the World”. There will be something for everyone to do: you can run/walk, donate/sponsor, or you can volunteer in one of many ways.

Volunteers are asked to report at the school at 7:00 am for a volunteer meeting. We will go over the event, responsibilities, and assignments.

Thank you for your time.

Race Time and Routes: (Start & finish assembly area: International Community School’s entrance)

5K – 9:00 am                                                             1 Mile – 10:00 am

5K course will affect traffic between 9-10 am and the 1 mile will affect traffic from 10-10:30 am.

Take note that the runners will use only the right side of the road, and cones will be placed down the middle of the road. However, because so many people park on the side of the road, there will probably be several places where both sides of the road will have runners.

Pricing:

5k: $20 until 10/21, $25 until 11/3, $30 on race day

1mi: $10 until 10/21, $15 until 11/3, $20 on race day

Students & Teachers: $10 for either race

If you have any questions about the race send us an email at [email protected]

We would love to see EVERYONE who has been part of our school all these years, so start spreading the word to your friends and family.

ICS Runs the World… 5K Invitation

Why do we fundraise? As a public charter school, ICS receives less local and state funding than traditional schools. Charter schools are not required to provide transportation, yet we spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on busing, money that gets taken from teacher salaries and classroom expenses. Donations like yours will help us cover the costs for buses so our students can come to school, and for transportation for athletic activities outside of school hours.

Why are we organizing a 5K? Running has a lot of history at ICS. We were one of the schools that first teamed up with Atlanta Track Club’s Kilometer Kids Program back in 2007 at the program’s inception. Since then, our school has had a consistent and strong presence from Fun Runs, and All Comers Meets, to major races, like the Peachtree Jr, Thanksgiving, and Be Healthy GA, where we show up with winning numbers of participation. And we don’t only go to run, we also cheer for runners: ICS has been present for two years at the PNC Atlanta 10-Miler, where runners voted our cheers to be one of the best. Last fall, thanks to a grant from ATC, the 136 students who participate in the Kilometer Kids running program, received new Mizuno running shoes. We just love running.

And let’s talk about our soccer program, where about 25% of the students participate, making it one of the largest public elementary soccer programs in the state. Since 2003, ICS Soccer Program, run by volunteers, has been bringing students and families together in the form of a supportive network that breaks down cultural boundaries and inhibitions. We are also proud to say that a few of our students are now playing at a professional level, including Lagos Kunga in Atlanta United, and Dembakwi Yomba in various national and international teams. More recently, Ben Davies  was asked to join the Atlanta United’s Academy Program.

You will not only find diversity in our students, but also in the ways we promote a healthy living. Aside from running and soccer, our students have had the opportunity to learn and participate in other activities, such as Tennis (sponsored by the USTA), Basketball, Baseball, Cricket, and multi-cultural dance.

Thank you for supporting The International Community School.
