The summer of 2019 ICS staff has had extraordinary learning opportunities. As we start our new school year with the focus on “learning,” it is important to document how the teachers and admin at ICS are learners first. This is some of what we have been learning:
Assistant principal Sharonda Frazier, Principal Julie Allen and Academic Coach Aliya Jafri with Bob Eaker, father of the Professional Learning Communities. After a book study, they attended a 3-day conference at the Solutions Tree Institute to better understand the PLC concept and take it to ICS.
5th grade team making a scribble machine. Teachers training in learning through inquiry. IB training June 18-19 at ICS.
1 full week Readers’ Workshop at Teachers’ College, Columbia University.
Teacher teams in a small group session on Co-Teaching. Preplanning July 29-August 2nd.
After attending Eureka Math training on July 8-9, teachers took their learning back to ICS. Our math TAs and a co-teacher taught a full math lesson to their colleagues.
Teachers came together to discuss the essentials of lesson planning.
Just like the students at ICS, the staff started their preplanning sessions with a daily Morning Meeting-a community-building practice.
Consultant Bill Frisby lead a full day of team building session during preplanning. Teacher teams came up with the definition of what collaborative culture at ICS looks like.
