On October 4, the Atlanta Falcons paid a surprise visit to ICS as part of Hometown Huddle. This is an event celebrated across every city hosting an NFL team and encourages all players to go out help around their community. The Atlanta Falcons partnered with United Way, 12 locations were chosen around Metro Atlanta, and ICS was one of them.
The visit was also part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 initiative, which is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the National Dairy Council and the NFL, in collaboration with the USDA, to help encourage today’s youth (Grades 3rd and up) to lead healthier lives, and exercise at least 60 minutes each day.
7 football players, 2 cheerleaders, 4 Falcons staff members, 3 United Way volunteers, a representative from Georgia Shape, and a few ICS volunteers and staff, led 100 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students through stations of physical activities for 60 minutes: so much energy and fun!

How did this opportunity for ICS came about?
ICS, through our PE teacher Ms. Dawn, has “taken the Georgia Shape pledge”, which is the state’s Childhood Obesity Initiative. Furthermore, ICS was the recipient of the SHAPE grant last year. Our school is also registered as a Fuel Up to Play 60 school, and has submitted various health and wellness initiatives throughout the years. All these efforts to help our students keep moving, healthy and active, caught the attention of the Georgia Department of Public Health, and the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation (Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation).
We want to express out gratitude to all the staff of the Atlanta Falcons, United Way, and Georgia Shape for making this possible for our students.
